I am an educator and researcher in the field of pathogen evolution. As a scientist, I pride myself on having a broad perspective on the questions I ask, allowing me to weave together skills from disparate disciplines including evolutionary biology, genetics, and microbiology. As an educator, the same goals allow me to effectively communicate and re-adjust complex information to the right skill level for the students I work with. By focusing on the big picture, which for me, is promoting students to have the richest possible life through critical engagement with the information around them, my students take meaningful life skills away from their science education.
